Ali MacGraw, famed for roles in “Love Story” and “The Getaway,” recently stepped out for dinner as an ordinary citizen at Casa Chimayo. At 84, she embraces aging, having confronted fears about turning 80. In a 2019 interview, she revealed, “I started to wake up…thinking, ‘Oh my God, the rest of the trip is so short compared to the one behind me.’”
MacGraw now resides in Tesuque, New Mexico, driven by environmental concerns after her Malibu house burned down due to wildfires. Despite initially considering a beach cottage in Malibu, she fell in love with Tesuque and lives in a cottage in the mountains, actively involved in the artistic and cultural community.
MacGraw reflects on her past and the importance of confronting mistakes, crediting her senior years’ happiness to concentrated efforts in changing her perspective. She now focuses on her privacy and works with the organization Ibu, designing clothing with female artisans.
Having been married three times, MacGraw is currently single. Her son, Josh Evans, followed her into acting but later turned to directing. Despite challenges in past relationships, including a complex one with Steve McQueen, MacGraw remains proud of her son and relishes her role as a grandmother.
In her quaint Tesuque home, MacGraw, sober for 32 years, has found solace, embracing a simple lifestyle as a profound “spiritual movement of our century.” With no plans to return to acting, she focuses on cultural pursuits and cherishing life in her mountain village.
