One of the late Jimmy Buffett’s final songs is all about his love for dogs – listen here

Beloved musician Jimmy Buffett, who passed away at 76 on September 1, left a poignant legacy with one of his final songs, “Like My Dog.” Released posthumously on November 25, the track celebrates Buffett’s deep affection for dogs. In the lyrics, he expresses the desire for a human companion who mirrors the unwavering love and loyalty of his pets. Buffett’s accompanying music video features home footage of him playing with his dogs, supplemented by fan submissions under the hashtag #likemydog, a request he made before his demise.

Partnering with the ASPCA, Buffett aimed to promote pet adoption from shelters through this collaboration. Known for his advocacy for animals, Buffett’s life extended beyond his own pets to include initiatives like the Save the Manatee Club and lobbying for the Endangered Species Act in 1987.

Buffett’s final album, “Equal Strain on All Parts,” released before his death, includes the cover of “Like My Dog,” originally recorded by Billy Currington. Despite battling Merkel cell carcinoma, a rare skin cancer, Buffett’s dedication to music and animal welfare remained strong until the end. The song stands as a heartwarming tribute, emphasizing his commitment to encouraging dog adoption.
